What is your role at BFBS?
I’m the Stakeholder Engagement Manager in the Communications and Marketing team.
What brought you to BFBS?
Military service runs in my family. My grandad served in the British Army, and my uncle served in the Royal Air Force. He spoke fondly of his time on operations and how BFBS brought a connection to home, keeping morale up during testing times, so I knew I wanted to be part of it. My background is in the radio and audio industry, and my journey began at BFBS as a Radio Presenter/Producer based in Salisbury Plain, with some time spent in the Falkland Islands.
Describe a typical working day?
There is no typical day in the Communications team. My role varies from delivering a presentation about BFBS and its services to our audience to leading on event attendance, such as a Families Day, or doing a pop-up engagement with the Esports team to bring their racing simulator to a Junior Ranks’ Mess.
What’s your favourite thing about life at BFBS?
What’s it like working with the armed forces?
My early career at BFBS exposed me to military life with very little prior experience. I became extremely passionate about their stories and the work they do — so much so that I joined the British Army as a Reservist. The military do an incredibly unique and extraordinary job, and so does the team at BFBS.
What are your interests outside work?
You’ll often find me with my dog as my life seems to revolve around him. I’m in my allotment era, growing food that mostly ends up feeding the Communications team. I'm also a big believer in lifelong learning, which led me down a path to achieve a PGCE teaching qualification. And then there’s my service with the Army Reserve, where you would usually find me working as an Aviation Groundcrew Specialist with the Apache AH-64E helicopter.
