What is your role at BFBS?

I'm a News Editor, overseeing our 24/7 Radio News bulletins and a team of experienced freelancers.

What brought you to BFBS?

I worked for the BBC in news and programmes, and then turned freelance working in newsrooms including  BBC Radio 5 Live, LBC, Classic FM and of course, BFBS, where I worked as a freelance Newsreader and Producer before permanently joining the BFBS team as a News Editor.

Describe a typical working day

Being across the news agenda of the day and liaising with our news planning team is a major part of my job. I oversee our news bulletins, which includes a ten minute fast paced programme five times a day, prioritising military news, but also featuring domestic news stories enabling our overseas audiences to keep fully in touch with what’s happening at home. The news changes minute by minute, so no two days are the same, in fact, no two hours are the same!

What’s it like working with the armed forces?

It’s an honour to work with the armed forces and incredibly rewarding to know that our news service can make a real difference to them. They often tell us that keeping in touch with events at home is a really important part of their day.

What are your interests outside work?

I love to travel and get to the gym as much as possible, and as a news junkie I have a (healthy) addiction to online newspaper subscriptions!
