BFBS TV Player Terms and Conditions

By accessing and using the BFBS TV Player by any means, including App, in browser, internet streaming or transferring any digital media content, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("T&Cs"). If you are accessing the BFBS TV Player on behalf of a group, employer, organisation, club, spouse, dependant, another account holder or any other persons (“Third party”) you hereby represent that the Third Party is entitled to access the BFBS TV Player and that you are authorised to act on their behalf and that they shall also be bound by these T&Cs.

Key Information:

  1. The BFBS TV Player is for use overseas by serving members of the British Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence staff, their dependants and some UK contract staff working exclusively for the MoD. Civilians, veterans and ex-pats are not entitled to use the BFBS TV Player.
  2. The BFBS TV Player does not include any parental controls or content filters. Programmes are likely to be available in your local timezone and via catchup which do not follow UK TV watershed standards. You accept this limitation and agree to exercise viewer discretion at all times, and further agree that any use of the BFBS TV Player by minors will be your sole responsibility and under supervision.
  3. Access to the BFBS TV Player is via your personal Defence Gateway account and you are additionally bound by Defence Gateway privacy policies, terms and conditions.
  4. The BFBS TV Player is for private use only on your own equipment. You must not allow unauthorised persons to access the BFBS TV Player, load the BFBS TV Player onto someone else’s device, share your account login or allow it to be used for public viewing. Doing so may compromise your device security and your own data privacy.
  5. Unauthorised use of the BFBS TV Player may result in civil or military action taken against you, breach of Standing Orders or other regulations which may affect your military record. Login data, including device ID, IP addresses and usage is recorded and may be passed to the authorities in the event of suspected fraudulent use.
  6. The BFBS TV Player uses significant amounts of internet data. You are liable for all data costs incurred and are advised not to use the BFBS TV Player via a mobile 3G/4G data, especially when roaming. One hour of TV uses around 1GB of data.
  7. We cannot guarantee the BFBS TV Player will work on your device or in your location due to the variety of devices and internet connections over which we have no control.
  8. By using the BFBS TV Player, you agree to all Terms and Conditions of use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the full Terms and Conditions of this Agreement, do not continue to use the BFBS TV Player.

Terms and Conditions of Use.

  1. These T&Cs are intended to safeguard TV and Radio content which is provided under agreements with programme makers and rights owners for use exclusively by the British Armed Forces audience. Any use outside these conditions could result in programmes and channels being withdrawn for the entire BFBS audience and could compromise your own security. You are therefore expected to act responsibly and report any unauthorised access to BFBS as soon as you become aware of it to safeguard BFBS services enjoyed by your colleagues, friends and families across the British Armed Forces.
  2. You may use the BFBS TV Player to watch TV programmes, listen to radio or access other content distributed by BFBS which is authorised to provide these services to the British Armed Forces, some military contractors, UK Ministry of Defence and their dependants in locations or territories (normally outside the UK) specified by the Ministry of Defence and BFBS from time to time ("Entitled User").
  3. Use of the BFBS TV Player may also be bound by other regulations, military Standing Orders and local laws, and consequently misuse may lead to disciplinary and/or civil action being taken against you which could affect your military record. Use by others (e.g. ex-pats, veterans or those no longer connected with the British Armed Forces), or by other means intended to circumvent lawful use of the BFBS TV Player or use outside permitted countries may be an offence under civil and/or military law.
  4. Access to the BFBS TV Player is granted to you at BFBS's sole discretion. Its use, including downloading and installing software Apps, is entirely at your own risk. BFBS does not offer any warranty or guarantee that the BFBS TV Player will work in all circumstances. Quality of service can be affected by many things outside BFBS's control, including the internet, your local ISP connection, your device, other users, available bandwidth from networks and wi-fi. BFBS accepts no liability whatsoever for any consequence of using the BFBS TV Player on any device or network.
  5. You acknowledge and accept that using the BFBS TV Player is likely to use significant volumes of internet data and you, or the person whose internet/mobile account you are using, will be liable for all data used. Typically, one hour of TV or video could use up to 1GB of data. Use via a mobile/cellular networks could incur very high data charges from your mobile service provider. You should not use the BFBS TV Player in Roaming mode on cellular connections. Broadband accounts with monthly download limits may be exceeded and result in excess charges. BFBS or the Ministry of Defence are not liable whatsoever for any costs incurred by you or others whilst using the BFBS TV Player.
  6. You acknowledge and accept that the BFBS TV Player is capable of showing content not intended for viewing at certain times of the day in your local timezone, not conforming to normal “TV watershed rules” and unsuitable for minors. This is a consequence of operating across different timezones and offering catch-up viewing. Parental controls are not available on the BFBS TV Player. You therefore agree that any use of the BFBS TV Player by minors is your responsibility and at your sole discretion.
  7. To access the BFBS TV Player, you must log on via the Defence Gateway using your personal Defence Gateway login and password. Access to the BFBS TV Player is not an automatic entitlement but may be granted provided you are an Entitled User and outside the UK. Any attempt to circumvent the UK restrictions is a violation of these terms. You must not share your login details with any other person or allow unauthorised use of the BFBS TV Player. Normally only one device may be used at a time per account. The BFBS TV Player requires regular interaction and logins via Defence Gateway. Entitled Users without a Defence Gateway account should contact the BFBS Service Desk on +44 203 750 4567. Proof of entitlement will be required including MOD or military sponsor details.
  8. BFBS TV Player sessions are logged and data collected which can identify device, IP address, session details linked to your Defence Gateway ID. Unusual or irregular patterns of use, including geo-IP location information is recorded to help prevent fraudulent use. BFBS will cooperate with civil or military authorities, RMP, RNP, RAFP, SIB, Defence Gateway or other regulatory authorities into suspected abuse of relevant laws, regulations, Standing Orders, and any part of these T&Cs, and will share information to assist in prosecutions. Suspected abuse of the BFBS TV Player account may lead to access being permanently denied. The service as a whole may be withdrawn for security or other operational reasons at any time.
  9. Access to certain TV and Radio channels or specific programmes will depend on, amongst other things, media rights associated with a channel or specific content or location, the type of device being or specific audience groups.
  10. You must not copy, store, reproduce or share any programmes or media content accessed with the BFBS TV Player. You must not disassemble, reverse engineer, intercept streams or attempt to bypass content protection systems used by the BFBS TV Player.
  11. BFBS reserves the right to alter these terms and conditions from time to time. Updated versions will appear here and on line at www.bfbs.com.
  12. Under no circumstances shall BFBS, its partners, suppliers, the channels, content providers or any other parties associated with the BFBS TV Player service be liable for any claim or action whatsoever arising out of the use of or inability to use the BFBS TV Player or its content, or any services linked to the BFBS TV Player whether based on warranty, contract, tort or any other legal theory.
  13. These Terms and Conditions are deemed to be the Agreement between you (including any Third Party) and BFBS for the BFBS TV Player. Any dispute or action arising from it shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and/or British Military law under the Armed Forces Act 2006.
