BFBS is proud to announce that BFBS Sitrep has won Best News Coverage (Audio) at the 2025 Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) Awards. Sitrep secured the title against a highly competitive field that included BBC World Service, Bloomberg, and Times Radio.

The AIB Awards celebrate excellence in global journalism across audio, video, and digital formats. Judged by senior media professionals from around the world, the awards are regarded as one of the most respected events on the international broadcasting calendar.

The award recognised Sitrep’s comprehensive and expert-led reporting on the war in Ukraine. The entry featured on-the-ground journalism from Simon Newton and Hannah King, supported by Professor Michael Clarke’s authoritative analysis of both the military situation and its wider geographical implications.

The AIB judging panel commended Sitrep for its exceptional journalism, with comments including: “outstanding access”, delivery with calm and authority”, “strong production values that draw the listener in from the outset”, and a 'mind-blowing' narrative.”

These comments highlight the work of the entire Sitrep team and reflect the expertise and commitment of colleagues across BFBS Forces News.

BFBS was further recognised at this year’s awards with nominations for James Wharton’s film The Forgotten Battle and the podcast The Culture Colonel. Having multiple entries shortlisted alongside global broadcasters underscores BFBS’ continued reputation for high-quality, trusted journalism and storytelling.
