Full Stack Developer - 12 month contract

We are looking for a Full Stack Python Developer.

Summary of Duties:

Working as part of the Core Development team within BFBS Media Innovation, you’ll be involved in highly innovative software development.  The team develop broadcast technology, helping to deliver rich media into difficult to reach locations.  You’ll be a Full Stack Python Developer working on cutting edge new functionality.

 Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Working as part of agile development sprints.
  • Using Python and/or C to develop APIs and microservices.
  • Integrating via API with 3rd party systems.
  • Inputting into feature planning and estimations.

 Working Relationships

Reporting to the Head of Development you will be working very closely with the Core Development team and colleagues in Product and Media Innovation.

Primary Skills

  • Python

  • Experience in Video and DRM would be desirable, but not essential
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication

  • Working at early stages of product design to feedback on user interface implementation.

Desirable - 

  • Experience of Linux
  • Experience of dealing directly with end users and customers
  • GIT or similar source code repositories
  • Video Playback
  • Digital Rights Management


Essential - Demonstrable experience of creating full stack applications with Python.

Desirable - Computer Hardware and Software Engineering Degree

  • Organised and able to deal with multiple conflicting demands. Able to prioritise.

  • Happy to work remotely and communicate with team using modern technology, such as Teams/Slack.

  • Agile software development principles.

Desirable - 

  • Understanding of IP principles
  • Knowledge and understanding of streaming technology, such as HLS and DRM


Essential - 

  • Home and/or office based in the UK. Flexible working possible. Attendance at our offices in Buckinghamshire will be required occasionally.
  • Ability and willingness to travel in the UK & overseas.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake additional rostered duties i.e. weekend and public holiday working.
  • Prepared to undergo Security Check, sign the Official Secrets Act and abide by Military Law.
  • Prepared to undergo appropriate Company Medicals if necessary

Desirable - Full UK driving licence
